Our Story: RockDove was created in 2002 for five birdwatchers of the Los Angeles Audubon Society, who were the company's customers when it was a beachside workshop in Santa Monica, California that resoled hiking boots. Over time, these customers asked for quality indoor shoes to console their high-mileage, trail-weary feet, and so the company began experimenting with slipper designs.

The Experiment: With little to build on, as shoe brands in southern California didn't pay much attention to slippers, RockDove used their expertise in making comfortable, long-lasting footwear. They designed slippers with the goal of comforting extremely tired feet, using materials like mattress memory foam, gel insoles, and anti-shock cushioning from hiking boots. The overwhelming response to their newsletter about the experiment led to the creation of the "rock dove" slipper.
