The RockDove Story: Inspired by Adventure, Made for the Everyday

RockDove was created in 2002 by five birdwatchers from the Los Angeles Audubon Society. Initially, we were a beachside workshop in Santa Monica, California that focused on resoling hiking boots, catering to the needs of avid adventurers. For fifteen years, we protected the feet of these customers as they conquered the punishing terrains of Southern California's mountains and deserts.

As our local shoe cobbler, we recognized a need that our customers were expressing – the lack of quality indoor shoes to soothe their high-mileage, trail-weary feet. In response, we handmade five pairs of slippers for our Audubon customers using a low-cut boot last, marking the beginning of our slipper journey.

The Experiment and Our Pursuit of Comfort

Shoe brands in Southern California, where sunny beaches and flip-flops reign, often overlook the importance of slippers. However, we knew how to make comfortable and long-lasting footwear. Using materials like mattress memory foam, gel insoles, and anti-shock cushioning from hiking boots, we designed slippers with the goal of comforting extremely tired feet.

When we shared our little experiment with customers, the response was overwhelming – 350 mail orders. Inspired by the rock dove (pigeon) often seen strutting the boardwalks of Santa Monica Pier, we named our slippers as a memento of our roots and what we represent.

Our quest for the ultimate comfort level led us to become one of the earliest adopters of high-density memory foam in slippers. We collaborated with local sleep experts to source and fine-tune the foam density and firmness, creating the "sweet spot" of comfort – not too soft, not too firm.

Today, the heart of each RockDove slipper is a multilayered foam construction, featuring pressure-mapped memory foam, support foam, and an anti-shock EVA layer, ensuring exceptional comfort for anyone on their feet all day.
